Made-to-measure curtains, loyalty and payments for HEMA's webshop and apps
- Years
- 2021 – 2023
- Role
- Lead backend developer
- Through
- Emakina NL, through BEE IT
- Scale
- 700+ stores
- Web and native apps
Challenge
HEMA designs and makes almost everything it sells, and sells it in more than 700 stores and online. The webshop and the native apps share one Salesforce B2C Commerce backend, so every new way to buy, from picking up in store to curtains made to measure, had to work on the web, in the apps and in the stores at the same time.
What I did
- 01Led backend development for the storefront and the native mobile apps, which talk to Commerce Cloud through OCAPI and SCAPI.
- 02Built the custom integration for made-to-measure curtains on the product page: the customer configures fabric, size, lining and pleat, and on add to cart we call the third-party configurator, pack its response into a Commerce Cloud product and add it to the cart.
- 03Worked on the integration of HEMA's loyalty programme into the storefront.
- 04Built a custom Adyen integration and extended checkout with click & collect and delivery options.
- 05Worked on GA4 and GTM tracking, SEO and the CI/CD pipeline.
Context
During these years HEMA grew sales and profit three years in a row and kept investing in its online channel. In 2023 gross sales rose 7.4% to €2.1 billion.
